This is a poem by Prasoon Joshi on the aftermath of Mumbai terrorist attack.
Let us not forget and forgive this time .... let us not let the wound heal as always ...


Is baar jab woh choti si bachchi mere
paas apni kharonch le kar aayegi
Main use phoo phoo kar nahin behlaoonga
Panpaney doonga uski tees ko

Is baar nahin

Is baar jab main chehron par dard likha dekhoonga
Nahin gaoonga geet peeda bhula dene wale
Dard ko risney doonga' utarney doonga andar gehrey

Is baar nahin

Is baar main na marham lagaoonga
Na hi uthaoonga ruee ke phohey
Aur na hi kahoonga ki tum aankhein band karlo,
gardan udhar kar lo main dawa lagata hoon
Dikhney doonga sabko, hum sabko khuley nangey ghaav

Is baar jab uljhaney dekhoonga, chatpatahat dekhoonga
Nahin daudoonga uljhee dor lapetney
Uljhaney doonga jab tak ulajh sake

Is baar nahin

Is baar karm ka hawala de kar nahin uthaoonga auzaar
Nahin karoonga phir se ek nayee shuruaat
Nahin banaoonga misaal ek karmyogi ki
Nahin aaney doonga zindagi ko aasani se patri par
Utarney doonga usey keechad main,
tedhey medhey raston pe
Nahin sookhney doonga deewaron par laga khoon
Halka nahin padneydoonga uska rang
Is baar nahin banney doonga usey itna laachaar
ki paan ki peek aur khoon ka fark hi khatm ho jaye

Gaur se thoda lambe wakt tak
Kuch faisley
Aur uskey baad hausley
kahin toh shuruat karni hee hogi
Is baar yahi tay kiya hai...

Why I am not celebrating Eid

Next Tuesday, December 9, is the Muslim feast of Eid-ul-Adha, one of two big holidays in the Islamic calendar. It honours the willingness of the prophet Abraham to sacrifice his favourite son to the will of God. Better known as Bakri Eid in India, this is an occasion for much feasting and rejoicing.

I am not celebrating Eid this year.
I am sacrificing my celebration to protest the killing of my Jewish and Christian brothers by terrorists last week. I do this deeply conscious of the fact that all our religions honour the prophet Abraham equally.
I am sacrificing my celebration to protest the gunning down of my fellow Indians (Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Jain, atheist, agnostic) by a gang of crazed fanatics claiming to work in the name of my religion while they went about their peaceful way in the streets of Mumbai.
I am sacrificing my celebration to honour the sacrifice of the policemen, soldiers and common citizens who died while saving innocent lives.
I will wear a black band (see accompanying piece) to Eid prayers to express my sorrow and to mark my outrage at the thugs who claim to act on behalf of Islam.
I am not celebrating Eid this year.
Allah will understand.

zindagi jeene ke qaabil hi nahin ab ae dost
warna har aankh mein ashkon ka samandar kyoon hai

apne chehre se jo zaahir hai chupaayen kaise

kahkaha aankhon ka bartaav badal deta hai
hansne waale tujhe aahsoo nazar aayen kaise
koi apnee hi nazar se to hume dekhega
ek qatre hain samandar nazar aayen kaise
